Spotting The Signs Of Yeast Infection
Yeast infection occurs in about 90% of women around the world. However, it’s also one of the most misunderstood illnesses in most countries. Most women who self medicate mistake yeast infection for urinary tract bacterial infection. They self medicate by taking over-the-counter generic antibiotics, unwittingly worsening the scenario. To avoid doing this, you need to know the first signs of yeast infection.
Do you see curdles?
The most common manifestation of yeast infection is a white or grayish curdle-like growth or discharge on the moist parts of the skin. Fungus thrives in dark, moist areas, which is the reason why it’s mostly seen on the genitals or the mouth. This curdle-like discharge may or may not be painlessly scraped off the skin. When the yeast infection is mild, it can be washed or wiped off easily. When the fungal infection is more intrusive, wiping off these signs of yeast infection can “reveal” a reddish, sensitive patch of skin which may bleed.
Clarification
Yeast infection is not necessarily sexually transmitted. It occurs when there’s an imbalance in the natural flora of the human body. When you’re taking antibiotics, and you’ve taken too much of it, there’s a possibility that you will suffer from yeast infection. Antibiotics can’t decipher the bad bacteria from the good bacteria in your body. When you take unnecessary doses of antibiotics, you can end up depleting the necessary good bacteria in your body. This can cause your body’s fungal population to be intrusive, and thus cause infections which triggers mouth ulcers and skin lesions.
Treatment
Mild yeast infection (like harmless and painless white patches on the mouth and genitals) may be treated with oral anti-fungal tablets and/or topical creams and ointments. Systematic yeast infection however (which causes severe rashes, bleeding, bruising, and discomfort all over your body) may require hospitalization. Needless to say, it’s advisable to get to your doctor at the first signs of yeast infection so you can treat it before it gets out of hand.
