Cure Yeast Infections

The easiest way to cure yeast infections is to understand what they are. There are a lot of ways to get yeast infection today, ranging from antibiotic use to weakened immune systems. Yeast, like good bacteria, naturally exists in the human body. However, increased populations of yeast or fungus in our body (mostly caused by a sudden and unnatural decrease in bacterial population) can cause the fungus to become intrusive and irritate our system.

About 90% of women in the United States alone experience yeast infection at least once in their life. Just because it’s frequent, though, doesn’t mean it should be brushed off in the same way most people brush off the common cold.

Kinds of yeast infection

If you want to cure yeast infections, you need to be aware of the different types which are oral (occurring in the mouth), genital (occurring in the vaginal or penis area), and/or systematic (affecting the whole body).

Oral yeast infection is also called “thrush”.  It is effectively treated with oral medication (nystatin, terconazole, miconazole, and clotrimazole) which may either be bought over-the-counter or with prescription. Topical medication may also be prescribed, although most doctors prefer to take it one step ahead, because oral yeast infection can lead to more serious systematic yeast infection as it may also affect the digestive tract.

Genital yeast infection is more effectively treated with topical creams and ointments which may be bought over the counter. Genital yeast infection can cause discomfort during urination and sexual intercourse.

Those with systematic yeast infection, however, need to be hospitalized. These are very rare cases which only occur to patients with diseases that cause their immune systems to weaken.

It’s always safe to see your physician when you spot the first few signs of yeast infection. Even if you feel that your yeast infection is mild, it’s better to get the diagnosis of a medical professional than misdiagnosing yourself. Most mild yeast infections worsen because they were not treated correctly, so you want to consult your physician as to the best way to cure yeast infections.
